UMSC, ICRC strengthen partnership ahead of International Law and Islam workshop
The Uganda Muslim Supreme Council and the International Committee of the Red Cross have reaffirmed their partnership ahead of a training workshop on International Law and Islam, with both institutions committing to deepen cooperation through dialogue and capacity-building initiatives.

The Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC) has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening its partnership with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) following a courtesy visit by senior ICRC officials, Jane Patricia Bako, Prevention Manager, and Counsel Mohammed Mahdy El Serafy, Operational Legal Advisor, to the Council's headquarters in Kampala.

During the meeting, the ICRC officials said the visit was intended to deepen the existing cooperation between the two institutions while updating UMSC on upcoming joint engagements.

They announced that the ICRC will host a one-day training workshop at the end of July under the theme, "International Law and Islam," followed by a seminar in the last week of October, with the theme to be announced at a later date.

The officials also invited UMSC to nominate participants for both programmes.

"Our visit is aimed at strengthening the existing cooperation between the ICRC and the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council. We look forward to UMSC's participation in the upcoming workshop on International Law and Islam and the October seminar," the ICRC delegation said.

Speaking on behalf of UMSC, Counsel Muhammad Ali Aluma, the Council's Deputy Secretary General in charge of Administration and Finance, welcomed the delegation and thanked the ICRC for its continued collaboration.

"We appreciate the ICRC for this courtesy visit and for extending these opportunities to UMSC. We remain committed to participating fully in both the July workshop and the October seminar as part of our ongoing partnership," Aluma said.

The meeting underscored the shared commitment of UMSC and the ICRC to promoting dialogue, legal awareness and institutional cooperation through capacity-building initiatives.
